The Heineken Experience is located in the original Heineken Brewery. Gerard Adriaan Heineken bought this building back in 1863 when it was the De Hooiberg brewery. He then turned it towards the production of his eponymous beer. The building remained a brewery all the way up to 1988. It was then that it became a museum (and hotspot for Heineken consumption). Located in the vibrant neighborhood of De Pijp, the Heineken Experience is ideally situated for a canal cruise, and some city exploration that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of Dam Square. Since 2001, it's been the world-famous Heineken Experience. After a year-long update and redesign in 2008, the Heineken Experience is more Heineken-y and Experience-y than ever before.

See art come to life at Fabrique des Lumières - the largest digital art center in the Netherlands - in the Westergasterrein, Amsterdam. A large industrial space with walls up to 17 meters high features immersive exhibitions by classic, modern and contemporary artists. With advanced technology, the artworks are brought to life by light projections and accompanying music, as well as a downloadable app that will further enrich your experience.

The Modern Contemporary (Moco) Museum Amsterdam is housed inside Villa Alsberg, a 1904 townhouse in the middle of Amsterdam Museumplein. Madame Tussauds is located in the center of Amsterdam at the ever-busy Dam Square. Founded by wax sculptor Marie Tussaud in the 18th century, this iconic wax museum chain has locations in many cities across the globe, including London, Berlin, New York, Las Vegas, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, and of course, the Dutch capital. Madame Tussauds Amsterdam is home to hundreds of historical and royal figures, film and sports stars, and immersive themed galleries. NEMO Science Museum is a science centre in Amsterdam, located at the Oosterdok. It was built on top of the IJ-tunnel that connects the centre of Amsterdam with the north of the city. The striking building, designed by Italian architect and engineer, Renzo Piano, opened its doors in 1997. Some say the shape of the building mimics the appearance of a large boat, but others suggest that it's actually a reflection of the tunnel it was built upon.

This 17th-century canal house has a literal highlight - a miniature, yet fully functional, church hidden in its attic! This house on the Herengracht was built in 1685-87 for then-mayor Jacob Hop. Louisa Willet-Holthuysen, widow of art collector Abraham Willet (1828-1888), vacated the property in 1895, leaving the house and its art collection to the city of Amsterdam.

How do we deal with death? That question is central to the Tot Zover Museum. How we deal with death says a lot about who we are, our origins and the times we live in. The Tot Zover Museum provides information about funeral rituals and offers reflection on mortality in a broad sense. The museum houses permanent and temporary exhibitions. The collection is of a cultural-historical nature and includes old hair paintings, death masks, post-mortem photography, coffins, urns, but also, for example, a collection of miniature cars and ingredients for a modern Muslim funeral such as lotus powder, camphor and musk.

The Jewish Cultural Quarter includes the Jewish Museum (formerly known as the Jewish Historical Museum), the Portuguese Synagogue (built in 1675), the Hollandsche Schouwburg (National Holocaust Memorial), and the Jewish Museum Junior (an educational children's museum designed like a traditional Jewish home). The Jewish Museum itself is housed in four monumental synagogues near Waterlooplein, making it a great place to start on a family day out in central Amsterdam.

The Dutch Resistance Museum explores the period from 14 May 1940 to 5 May 1945, when the Netherlands was occupied by Nazi Germany. Visitors can learn about the Dutch way of life via a series of exhibitions featuring artifacts, objects, video displays, and more.

The German anatomist Gunther von Hagens, who invented the plastination technique in the late 1970s at teh University of Heidelberg, developed this exhibition. The Body Worlds Exhibition was first presented in 1995. Showing whole bodies plastinated in lifelike poses and dissected to show various structures and systems of human anatomy, which has since met with public interest and controversy in more than 50 museums and venues around the world.

Jewish history runs through the streets and buildings of Amsterdam. Reminders of the holocaust are ever-present, from the queues outside the Anne Frank House to the brass cobblestones serving as memorial plaques outside the homes of Jewish residents lost during the war. The Jewish History Museum has gathered a wealth of information to paint a picture of Dutch Jewish life, both as it was in the past and in its current state. The museum also includes a Children's Museum where kids can learn about Jewish life and traditions in a playful way, from learning some Hebrew words to helping bake bread in a Kosher kitchen.

The Red Light Secrets Museum, or Amsterdam's Museum of Prostitution, is a window into what goes on in the famous (or notorious?) Red Light District. Located at Oudezijds Achterburgwal 60H, the museum is just a 5-minute walk from Centraal Station, on one of the picturesque canals that make up the area the locals call 'de Wallen'.

The Amsterdam Dungeon first opened its doors to the public of Amsterdam in 2006 and has been scaring people ever since. Once a thriving theatre before World War II, the Hollandsche Schouwburg tragically became a Nazi collection point for the deportation of Jews from July 1942 onward. Thousands were detained here for hours, days, or even weeks before being dispatched to concentration and extermination camps. Today, the former theatre stands as a poignant memorial, honoring all victims of the Holocaust.
