Amersfoort is a city in the Dutch province of Utrecht, granted city rights in 1259 and celebrating 750 years as a city in 2009.

About Amersfoort

The name Amersfoort, after a ford in the Amer River, today called the Eem, first appeared in the 11th century. The city grew around the Hof, where the Bishops of Utrecht established a court to control the Gelderse Vallei area.
