About the Exhibition: Calculating Empires
The work by artists and researchers Kate Crawford and Vladan Joler is a huge map shown in an ellipse that literally surrounds the visitor. It reads as a timeline from the rise of capitalism, European colonialism and the printing press to today's rapid development of artificial intelligence.
Made of more than a thousand small texts and handmade illustrations, it shows how technology connects with automation, communication infrastructure, education, colonialism, militarisation, exclusion and inclusion.
