About the Exhibition: De dijken breken
The exhibition looks at the night the dikes failed in the south-west of the Netherlands and asks what caused the disaster and what followed. Simple objects from daily life, period news images, photo albums and folders of newspaper clippings build up the picture.
Visitors can listen to former weatherman Erwin Kroll explain how the disaster could happen and read about radio amateurs such as Peter Hossfeld, who built his own radio to warn the rest of Europe. The effects on Zeeland, South Holland and North Brabant become clear.
