About the Exhibition: Elementen – Verstillend werk van Bert Frijns
Frijns' work brings together glass, lines and light. For five decades he mainly made colourless bowls without ornament, and his works relate to their surroundings through the four elements of fire, earth, water and air.
Visitors learn how he works with sheets of ordinary window glass in a technique called slumping, melting them in an oven into a shape. He keeps his exact method to himself, and he was a pioneer who made glass his material in the autonomous visual arts.
