About the Exhibition: expositie CoBrA in woord en beeld
After the Second World War, CoBrA, a group of artists and poets from the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark, broke radically with academic rules. The show highlights its collaborations with the poets of De Vijftigers, which produced peinture-mots, rare joint portfolios and booklets in which text and image merge.
Lithography gave key figures such as Pierre Alechinsky, Karel Appel, Constant, Corneille, Christian Dotremont and Asger Jorn a free, direct medium. Much of the work has never been exhibited before, including pieces from the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Kunstmuseum Den Haag.
