About the Exhibition: Goudse Glazen
The windows date from a turbulent era of Renaissance, Reformation and the Dutch Revolt against the king of Spain. You see the medieval style give way to the Renaissance, while the donors of the windows let you follow the political developments of the revolt.
When the church passed into Protestant hands, altars and statues of saints were removed but the windows were spared, and the project was even continued, now sponsored by the cities of Holland. At a glance you can see Philip II of Spain in his own window and, diagonally opposite, William of Orange in the window of the city of Delft.
