About the Exhibition: Henk Mual – Kunstenaar in drie werelden
Mual's work raises questions of identity: is his art Moluccan, Javanese or Dutch, or does it fit no single box? The show also connects to the history of the Moluccan community in the Netherlands, including the train hijacking at De Punt.
Visitors see different periods, from early paintings showing the influence of Vincent van Gogh to freer, more abstract work and later pieces about memories of Java, nature and spirituality. Photos and family footage by granddaughter Bodée Mual add another perspective.
