About the Exhibition: Van aardbeziën tot zomerkoninkjes
In the 19th century Boskoop also had a flourishing strawberry trade, grown between the standard fruit trees as a valuable extra income for nurserymen. The Aardbeziëncompagnie organised transport and sales to cities such as Leiden, Gouda, The Hague and Rotterdam.
Visitors learn how the women and children picked and packed the fruit in glazed earthenware pots, which kept it cool and fresh, and how such pots are still found in the soil today.
