About the Exhibition: Zandvoortse Vrouwen
The show asks who the women were that helped shape Zandvoort over the centuries, since their faces are sometimes known but their stories have often vanished. It begins with Thérèse Schwartze's painting of a Zandvoort woman and a section on the fish carriers who walked to Haarlem to sell the catch, using paintings, photographs, postcards and archive pieces.
The portrait series Bijvangst by photographer Ursula van de Bunte links past and present. She portrays Zandvoort women of different generations and tells their personal stories, inspired by Schwartze's painting.
