Hand-painted wall hangings in oil on canvas flourished especially in the eighteenth century and were made for one specific interior. Zeeland had a striking preference for bird scenes, including by Aert Schouman and his follower Abraham Meertens, but hardly any survive in situ.

Together with contemporary wallpaper painters Jaap Snijder and Marcelo Gimenes of Snijder&CO, the museum explores the past, present and future of the craft. Sketches, reconstructions and loose hangings give an impression of its importance for Zeeland interior history.
