Vrijheid in Voeding

Once ordinary families ate what the land and garden yielded, while luxury products were only for the rich. Over the twentieth century mechanisation, fertiliser and insecticides raised yields, and today the whole world sits in our supermarket, which also brings choice stress and questions about health, sustainability and waste.

The exhibition highlights both abundance and limitation, then and now, from self-sufficient families and periods of hunger to global food chains and organic, seasonal products. It is part of the Rijn/Maas museum network theme of freedom.
