Zuidwolde

Zuidwolde is a village in the municipality of Het Hogeland in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands, with around 1,010 inhabitants in January 2017.

About Zuidwolde

The village was first mentioned in 1399 and its name means southern woods. It developed in the Middle Ages in a forest rich moorland and grew into a linear settlement with two churches, Zuidwolde and Noordwolde.

In 1653 the Boterdiep was dug, cutting the village into two parts, and the tower of the Dutch Reformed church dates from the 12th century. On Cultoura you can visit Museum De Wemme.
