About the Exhibition: De Peel een Mysterie
Because of its raw nature, the Peel was always an impenetrable border between Brabant and Limburg and therefore an inspiring mystery. The exhibition covers its history, which goes back millions of years, with prehistoric fossils, a mammoth skeleton, the discovery of the Gouden Helm by peat cutters and art inspired by the Peel.
Children can romp on a springy bog, measure how many peats high they are and compare the softness of fox fur with rabbit skin. Fairytale-like display cases show plants and animals of the Peel, and mascot Tuurke may be hiding behind a tall fern.
