About the Exhibition: Sydenham Edwards
Curtis appointed Edwards as draughtsman for the magazine, which is still published today by Kew Gardens in London as Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Subscribers received three images with descriptions each month, mostly of striking, exotic and unusual plants drawn from life in London, private gardens, nurseries and Kew.
The drawings were usually engraved in black and white and coloured by a large group of colourists. Edwards later founded his own magazine, The Botanical Register, and remained a versatile artist whose drawings are still loved.
