The story begins with a hunters' camp found at the Belvédère loess quarry and moves on to the first farmers and the Romans, who built a bridge over the Maas. It continues through the Merovingian period, when Maastricht was an important economic centre, and the city's role as a garrison town.

You see the many objects that were found in the city and learn how Maastricht became the first industrial city in the Netherlands, shaped by industrialist Petrus Regout and his ceramics factories.
