About the Exhibition: Hals – Rembrandt
Frans Hals and Rembrandt van Rijn are both praised for their loose painting style and lifelike portraits, of wealthy regents as well as children, actors and musicians. Yet Rembrandt painted searchingly, adding layer upon layer, while Hals worked more swiftly and surely, creating paintings like snapshots of reality.
The selection includes striking combinations such as their group portraits of cloth examiners and regentesses. Visitors get the chance to look closely at both masters side by side and so see more.
