About the Exhibition: Aletta Jacobskamer
Jacobs was the first female doctor in the Netherlands, campaigned for contraceptives and successfully fought for women's suffrage. The room holds many of her personal belongings, three of which are included in the Canon of the Netherlands for their role in women's emancipation.
You see the trunk that travelled with her on her great journeys of 1911 and 1912, made with the activist Carrie Chapman Catt, and a model from 1844 used to teach medical students about reproduction. It symbolises knowledge of and power over the female body.
