About the Exhibition: Het verhaal van Valkenburg
The exhibition shows how the yellowish limestone called marl has been used for building since prehistoric times, and how the Romans built villa complexes along the Via Belgica. It also follows the Lords of Valkenburg and the fate of the castle.
Visitors meet the Roman inhabitants, learn about turbulent centuries of war and plunder, and see how the steam train brought spa tourism and a new golden age.
