About the Exhibition: Lichtvanger – Juane Xue
Trained in traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, Xue later settled in the Netherlands and joined that discipline to the artistic freedom she found in Western Europe. Inspired by impressionism, expressionism and Chinese philosophy, she built her own visual language of colour, light and emotion, with the play of light and shadow as a common thread.
The show presents lively cityscapes, intimate café interiors, still lifes including the beloved series Verlaten tafels, and early work from her time in China. Together they trace the development of an artist with a distinctive place in Dutch painting.
