Wereldreis

The exhibition follows the Texel roadstead, a sheltered anchorage where ships loaded, unloaded, took on supplies and waited for the right wind. It shows the wealth this trade brought, but also the hardship of life at sea.

Finds recovered from the seabed by divers bring the stories of the sailors to life, as some wrecks lay preserved under the sand like time capsules. Visitors sail along with ships heading south for oil and silk or north for grain and timber.
