About the Exhibition: Een Vloedgolf van Levenslust

Hend Samir, an Egyptian painter born in Kuwait, paints with fine brushes and brushes as big as brooms, almost disappearing into canvases that ripple across her studio floor. From many layers of colour she draws out mothers and toddlers, animals, musicians and lovers.

The overview combines early paintings with her expansive mature work and brand-new canvases, from intimate scenes to dynamic vistas. It also touches on the Revolution in Cairo and her search for artistic freedom.
