About the Exhibition: Vorstelijke Vogels

The museum shows loans from the Royal Collections and Museum Arnhem: two works by Aert Schouman and a painting by Melchior d'Hondecoeter. Schouman, one of Dordrecht's best painters of the 18th century, made watercolours and wall hangings after living and exotic animals in the menagerie of Stadtholder Willem V.

Two of these monumental wall hangings can now be seen alongside d'Hondecoeter's Fable of the crow robbed of his showy feathers. Together they present the best Dutch bird painters of that era side by side.
